School Gardens & STEAM Dream
Our School Gardens and STEAM programming uses arts-integrated, project-based learning curricula that give students opportunities to apply higher level academic skills to the solutions of real-world problems faced by their communities. Students also develop knowledge and skills for solving complex or challenging science, math, and engineering problems.
Thanks to a grant from the national nonprofit Big Green in 2023, we began expanding our School Gardens programming in earnest. The program has continued to grow and now includes partnerships with 34 schools throughout Chatham County. These gardens have become vital extensions of the classroom, serving as spaces for family engagement, counseling, small group programming, and outdoor learning that supports both social-emotional and academic growth.

The produce grown in these gardens contributes directly to the well-being of school communities. Harvests are used in food giveaways, cooking classes, and student meals. Loop It Up provides standards-aligned garden education at partner schools, delivering hands-on lessons to over 1,000 students each school year and reaching approximately 300 students each week.

"Loop It Up's support plays an integral role in our ability to bring STEAM into our classrooms and bring STEAM to life for our students. Community partnerships, like the partnership we have with Loop It Up Savannah, helps enhance the learning experience for students. Community partnerships like Loop It Up Savannah are needed and very necessary."
